Individual Therapy - Anxiety & Panic
Many clients I work with arrive to therapy feeling stuck in their own thoughts, disconnected from their feelings, worried about their relationships and school/work performance, and find it hard to slow down or relax. They find it difficult to change any of these patterns because the part of them that constantly says “work harder” or “don’t forget to…” has helped them to become who they are today. However, if you find yourself in this place, you know that it’s exhausting to always be “on”, to try and prove yourself, or to never get a break from your own thoughts.
In individual therapy we’ll work together to:
Understand the root cause and purpose of anxiety in your life
Find new ways of relating to yourself - replacing shame, fear, or perfectionism with compassion & curiosity
Develop or expand on skills for relieving anxiety or anxiety/panic attacks in the moment
Address underlying beliefs, fears, or experiences that contribute to anxiety
Often, as I dig into work with clients experiencing anxiety, we end up talking about unexpected things such as:
the constant feeling of not belonging that they wrestle with as a woman of color,
how scary it is to feel sadness,
family dynamics that keep them feeling stuck in a certain role,
the fears that come up if they share their true feelings or needs in relationship
All of this makes me confident to tell you that as incapacitating, exhausting, or frustrating as your anxiety may feel - it is really human, and it makes sense. As your therapist, I’m here to help you better understand how and why your anxiety functions the way that it does - and then to compassionately work towards new ways of addressing the underlying needs that anxiety is currently meeting.
